Global was founded in January 1994 to acquire the Urban microscope and SMR divisions of Storz Instrument Company. Urban was closely involved in the introduction of the surgical microscope into Otolaryngology in the 1960’s. Urban established, and Global is proud to continue, the tradition of quickly responding to the optical needs of the surgeon.
SMR has been supplying chairs and cabinets to doctors for 75 years. The SMR MaxiCabinet has long been the leading cabinet used by Otolaryngologists.
Global and its predecessors have a long and successful history of combining optical and cabinet expertise in the design and production of Microsurgical Laboratories. Global is the only company with this combination of capabilities and has supplied many temporal bone labs for Otolaryngology, "wet labs" for Ophthalmology and general-purpose labs for both medical and dental instruction.
